Biometrics – Genetics Department Laboratory

   In the Department of Animal Science, Biometry Genetics Department Laboratory, applications and thesis studies related to compulsory and elective courses of undergraduate and graduate students are carried out. At the same time, in order to protect and ensure the sustainability of existing genetic resources in various farm animals (cattle, sheep, goats, buffalo, donkey), projects and researches are carried out in the following study areas using various molecular genetic methods in DNA samples obtained from different breeds. The laboratory consists of 3 sections: DNA isolation room, PCR room and Gel Imaging room.

The main working areas of our laboratory:

  • Characterization and identification of farm animal domestic genetic resources using molecular genetic methods,
  • Use of genetic data in farm animal protection and management studies,
  • Molecular breeding applications in farm animals;
  • Determination of mutations in genes related to productivity and diseases in animals,
  • Parental determination, genome research and gene expression analysis studies in animals
